Introduction to African folk music

Folklore is a tradition in which the guardians of African memory—namely, the griots and elders—pass down stories of heroic deeds to the younger generation for various purposes.

These reasons include, among others, the revaluation and commemoration of legends in society. It therefore becomes necessary to remember African folklore in order to avoid the loss of these cultural values. Folklore therefore constitutes an important part of oral tradition. It includes its own traditional beliefs. At GAFFO, we offer such courses which encompass our traditions, uses, customs. The folk dances that we offer are not part of so-called “sacred” dances, but dances which are intended for the general public and particularly during festivals, such as in summer and even to celebrate multiculturalism.
