Introduction to wood carving

Materials with special characteristics, wood has always been used in traditional Africa by sculptors trained with masters. The course that GASFO offers is for people who have never sculpted wood. They are advised to bring their own tools even if the GAFFO could lend them temporarily. The hands-on workshops that participants will be exposed to will focus on the easiest sculpting modes to learn. The instructor will give them an overview of the different types of carving wood, sharpening, tools, starting of course with all the basic techniques. At the end of this course, the trainees will be able to create their own wood carvings with advice and appropriate tools from their teachers.
